Kronborg Chess Open 2025

This year marks the 52nd edition of Kronborg Chess Open since the tournament’s inception in 1971.

Welcome to Kronborg Chess Open

Helsingør Chess Club invites you to a 7-round FIDE Round Robin (all-play-all) tournament spread over 4 days. The tournament takes place at Comwell Borupgaard Hotel in Snekkersten. This international chess tournament is open to all players with FIDE – ELO or national ratings.

The GM & IM Groups plays 9-round FIDE Round Robin (all-play-all) tournament spread over 5 days from May 28th – June 1st 2025.

Kronborg Chess Open is named after the famous Kronborg Castle located in Helsingør – The home of Hamlet. The playing venue is surrounded by a peaceful park, offering a view of tranquil and green surroundings.

We offer an international chess tournament in fantastic settings with the option to stay at the playing venue. Registration for Kronborg Chess Open 2025 is now open, and you can register directly through our partner, Nem Tilmeld (registration and payment)

Tournament Format

All-play-all in 8-player groups, possibly the bottom group as Monrad depending on the number of participants. The winner of the top group is awarded the title Kronborg Master 2025. In case of a tie, the title is determined by 1. Head-to-head result / 2. Number of wins / 3. Sonneborn-Berger correction.

Groups are divided based on the national Danish rating. Elo rating is equated with the national Danish rating. The GM& IM  groups are divided based on Elo/FIDE-rating.

Time Control

90 minutes per player for the entire game with an additional 30 seconds per move.

Note: It is allowed to arrive up to 45 minutes late for the round without incurring a loss.

Rating

The tournament is FIDE/Elo rated

The above prizes are based on a minimum of 72 participants. Adjustments may occur depending on the number of participants, group allocation, and rating level.
